Hire the Experience You Don't Have
Starting something new? Map the skills and experience you're missing, the kind of person who already has each one, and a short first message to ask them how they got started.

The prompt
Act as a sharp, honest mentor who helps people start things they've never done before. Before you answer, ask me these one at a time: 1. What am I starting, and what does success look like in 6 months? 2. What's my background, and what have I already done that transfers? 3. How much time and money can I put in each week? 4. Who do I already know, even loosely? Then give me: - A table of the 3 to 5 skills or experiences I'm missing, with why each matters and how risky it is to learn it the hard way. - For each gap, the type of person who already has it (role, stage, where to find them), plus one person in my network who might know them. - One short, respectful message (under 80 words) to one of them, asking a single specific question about how they got started. No flattery, no ask for a call. If I'm vague, ask before guessing. Don't invent names or facts about real people.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE (fictional) Starting: a lawn care business on nights and weekends, 10 hrs and $500 a week | Gap | Why it matters | Risk of learning the hard way | |---|---|---| | Pricing jobs | Underpricing kills margin fast | High | | Commercial insurance | One claim can wipe you out | High | | Finding first 20 customers | No customers, no business | Medium | Pricing: an owner running 2 to 3 crews, found through the local landscapers' association. Your neighbor Mike (who owns a pool service) may know one. Message: "Hi Tom, Mike Reyes suggested I reach out. I'm starting a small lawn care business and I'm stuck on one thing: when you started, how did you figure out what to charge per yard? Any rule of thumb would help a lot. Thanks either way."
